Format a media in LTFS

Preparing Tape Media for Use with Nodeum

Before using a tape with Nodeum, you must format the media through the appliance. The tape will be formatted in LTFS, allowing it to be used immediately. You can format a single tape, multiple tapes, or an entire pool of tapes. An option in the task definition allows you to assign the tape to the Scratch pool after the formatting process completes successfully. By default, when a tape is added to the tape library, no pool is automatically assigned.

Note: Formatting a tape will erase all existing content. Use caution before proceeding.

Scan a LTFS Media

The scan identifies content on LTFS Tape, automatically adding it to the Nodeum catalog.

Check tape media consistency

This feature allows to check the LTFS consistency of a media. A volume is consistent when both partitions are complete and the last Index Construct in the Index Partition has a back pointer to the last Full Index Construct in the Data Partition.

This task allow to verify if the tape media is consistent, if not, then it will indicate that an operation of media recovery had to be done in using the ltfsck command.
