Tape Overview

Manage the tape library directly with Nodeum.

Configuration of a Tape Library

To set up a tape library, follow these steps:

System -> Hardware -> Storage -> Tape Library

This action will automatically discover all connected tape libraries

Mandatory Information
Description

Name

Complete a name

Emulation

Select the supported emulation for your Tape Library

Check the status of the Tape Library

Status
Description

Configured

Tape library is configured

Not Configured

Tape library is not configured

Ready

Tape library is connected and operational.

Not Ready

Tape library is either not connected or not operational.

Tape Drive Configuration

The next step is to configure the associated Tape Drive(s).

This action will automatically discover all connected tape drives and list all drives connected

Check the status of the Tape Drives

Status
Description

Configured

Tape drive is configured

Not configured

Tape drive is not configured

Online

Tape drive is connected and operational

Offline

Tape drive is connected but in maintenance mode

After completing this step, return to the Tape Library Configuration

Tape drive Replacement or other materials

In case of the tape library required to change a tape drive, replace the bridge or other materials, Nodeum need to resync with the new material information like the SCSI devices or other.

Sync the mapping of Tape Library and Tape Drive SCSI device(s)

When modifying the Tape Library and Tape Drives configuration, device assignments may change. Synchronizing the devices between both configurations is necessary in.

Tape Library sync

In the screenshot, the device in use is /dev/sg8. Clicking on Discover tapes libraries information initiates a scan

This operation may take a few seconds or minutes, depending on the size of each tape library in terms of tape drives

Tape Drives sync

The same operation can be performend into the Tape Drives configuration.

In this example you can see in the red square the devices used by each Tape Drives:

Tape Barcode Requirement

  • Ensure the Tape Library is set up to display the full 8-character Tape Barcode, e.g., ABC123Lx, where 'x' represents the LTO version.

  • Tape Barcode must be unique.

  • if multiple Tape Libraries are configured, you are not allowed to use identical barcode in the different Tape Libraries !

Once the operation is finished, it will displayed the updated device, in this example /dev/sg4 and display the to highligh that there is an update.
